IONITY Charlestown, Dublin 11 is now officially Ireland's largest, highest power, public charging hub. Last week we had the opportunity to meet with [M&M Contractors](https://www.mm-contractors.com), [IONITY](https://www.ionity.eu), [Charlestown Shopping Centre](https://www.charlestowncentre.ie), [ZEVI](http://www.gov.ie/zevi), & others, to check out the hub as commissioning of the units began.

It's conveniently located less than 2km from the M50 (whichever direction you're travelling) near Charlestown Shopping Centre, with both McDonald's & KFC only 100m away too.

The hub comprises 12 350kW CCS units, each supporting multiple methods of use:

- Contactless payment;
- [IONITY app (including Passport subscriptions)](https://www.ionity.eu/passport);
- Plug & Charge;
- Charging card (typically only available for vehicles from IONITY's vehicle manufacturing backers, e.g. [Volkswagen's We Charge](https://www.volkswagen.ie/en/electric-cars/charging/we-charge.html)), or;
- Website.

Pricing currently ranges from €0.42/kWh (with an IONITY Passport Power subscription) to €0.70/kWh (whether using IONITY app without a subscription, contactless payment, or website). Speaking of fees, we were advised on the day that parking while charging is free, though parking fees & clamping are otherwise active in the area.

Each unit's halo light provides both illumination, & also indicates whether that unit is actually currently in use - changing from white to purple when a vehicle is being charged.

Another innovation present is the compact substation located across the road from the hub. This provides a number of advantages over the traditional substation, & should accelerate future installations, something which we'll be hearing more about in the coming months.

As always, we'll keep you up to date on future installations on [Infrastructure Updates](https://www.irishevassociation.ie/infrastructure-updates), though for now be sure to check IONITY Charlestown out if you're in the area.
